As you begin thinking about 2008, are you expecting to pursue the same goals that keep eluding you? Before making any more New Year’s resolutions, choose the one resolution that fits all. Resolve to put heart and soul into every goal you set.
Heart and Passion
Having heart means having passion. Passion is self-renewing energy that radiates from a deeply-held belief. It is not a thought. It is momentum that never goes away. Passion is the motivation that gives you the drive, determination, dedication and discipline to accomplish your goals. It cannot be faked, found, borrowed or manufactured. Passion comes naturally.
If you repeat the same resolutions each year perhaps you are pursuing goals that are not in line with your passion. Ask these questions to find goals that agree with your personality and nature. What do I gravitate towards, do easily or choose to do when I don’t have to? What am I doing when time passes quickly and even the thought of eating is an interruption? In what area do I get a lot of ideas? What makes me feel alive? While examining these questions, reflect on your childhood years. Natural passions probably surfaced during this time when money was not a motive and beliefs were uninhibited by the limiting logic of adulthood.
When you think, “I want to do that,” that comes from the head. When you think, “I can do that,” that comes from the heart.
Soul and Spirit
Having soul means having a spiritual connection. You might call this guiding force God, the Creator, a higher power or something greater than yourself. Regardless of the name you choose, having a universal belief that connects all life adds meaning and fullness to your passions.
This centering force will help direct decisions and clarify choices. It is a constant source of personal development and positive thinking as you face obstacles, especially your own tendencies and weaknesses. To tap into this all-powerful potential, consistently devote time to silence, stillness, reflection, study and prayer.
A spiritual connection will transform you and free you to realize your potential.
Conclusion
With heart and soul you cannot be contained or cornered. Passion and spirit are the common active ingredients of achieving goals and dreams. Before making another resolution, focus on following your passion and finding a spiritual connection. By doing so you will also find the energy and purpose to sustain you throughout the journey.
